"I felt heard and cared for."
Our courses are led by Christian O'Toole, married, father of three, and committed secondary school teacher.
In 2004, Christian was authorised to teach the Dhamma (the Buddha's teachings) by Philippa Ransome, herself authorised by much-respected Buddhist nun Venerable Ayya Khema, one of the great mystics of the 20th century. Over some 30 years until her death in 1992 Ayya Khema established meditation centres in Germany and Australia, taught extensively in UK and US and wrote many well-loved books on the Dhamma. Philippa has taught the Dhamma for 25 years. In 2010, she established Peninsula Mindfulness, offering courses in Relaxation, Meditation, Mindfulness and Insight across the Mornington Peninsula, which is now a non-profit community-based association. |
INSIGHT COURSES
During each Insight Course, Christian leads the group through various types of Buddhist meditation in the Theravada tradition. The focus is on gaining a better understanding of our habits of mind in order to be happier. Participants learn that experiences during meditation can become insights we carry with us to change our lives for the better. In addition, practitioners are taken through the teachings of the Buddha, working directly with a variety of Suttas (discourses), including the Maha-satipatthana Sutta (The Greater Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness). Courses are practical in nature, as students meditate in the group and are invited to apply what they have learnt to their everyday lives. |
